Bank Lending Strengthens in January 2026, but MSME Lending Contracts
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded that bank lending in January 2026 grew by 9.96% year-on-year. This figure is higher than the 9.69% growth recorded in December 2025.
BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said that the growth in lending was supported by increases in all types of lending, particularly investment credit.
“This positive performance is supported by the growth of investment credit by 22.38% (year-on-year), consumer credit by 6.58% (year-on-year), and working capital credit by 4.13% (year-on-year),” said Perry in a press conference on Thursday (19/2/2026).
“The growth of bank lending needs to continue to be strengthened to support economic growth,” he said.
BI data shows that the credit disbursed by banks in January 2026 was recorded at IDR 8,416.4 trillion, or grew 10.2% (year-on-year), an increase compared to the 9.3% growth in December 2025.
In terms of the type of use, working capital credit (KMK) in January 2026 grew 4.8% (year-on-year), higher than the previous month at 4.4% (year-on-year).
Meanwhile, investment credit (KI) grew 21.9% (year-on-year), an increase compared to the previous month’s growth of 20.5% (year-on-year).
This growth is mainly supported by the agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, and fisheries sectors, as well as the construction sector.
Consumer credit (KK) grew 7.2% (year-on-year), up from 6.4% (year-on-year) in December 2025.
Sectorally, credit disbursed to the domestic private sector in January 2026 reached IDR 8,416.4 trillion.
Investment credit to the agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, and fisheries sectors grew 32.1% (year-on-year), while the construction sector grew 38.0% (year-on-year).
In the property segment, the disbursement of property credit grew 14.1% (year-on-year), an increase compared to the previous month at 13.1% (year-on-year). This growth is mainly driven by construction credit, which grew 34.4% (year-on-year).
