Bank Indonesia's Yogyakarta Office Prepares Rp 4.99 Trillion in Currency for Eid Holiday 2026
The Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office for the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has announced that it has prepared fit and proper currency (ULE) for the Eid 2026 holiday period amounting to Rp 4.99 trillion.
“The provision of currency is to meet transaction needs, which are predicted to increase with the arrival of approximately 8.2 million travellers and tourists to the DIY region,” said Head of BI Yogyakarta Sri Darmadi Sudibyo in Yogyakarta, Monday, 16 March 2026.
Darmadi explained that the amount of currency provided this year has increased by 8.24 per cent compared to the previous period, which was Rp 4.61 trillion. BI has prepared a series of exchange services running from 13 February to 17 March 2026 with a total of 42 exchange points throughout the DIY region.
Distribution of the service is divided into several schemes, ranging from retail exchange services at places of worship to collaboration with banks.
“For retail exchange services, we have already implemented it with nine banks from 3 to 5 March 2026,” he said.
The exchange services are spread across six locations in Yogyakarta, including the Masjid Gede Kauman, Masjid Syuhada, Masjid Agung Sleman, Masjid Agung Kulon Progo, Masjid Agung Bantul, and Masjid Agung Wonosari.
Additionally, there is an integrated exchange service centralised at the Amongrogo Sports Complex from 25 February to 12 March 2026, as well as currency exchange at 34 banking offices spread throughout DIY, both at head offices and branches.
To welcome travellers, Darmadi stated that his office is also operating mobile cash services and new currency exchange services located at Yogyakarta Station from 13 to 17 March 2026.
“Members of the public who wish to use this service must follow the established procedures in order to maintain order,” he said.
One of the requirements is that those exchanging currency must register first through the official BI website. Each service implementation is limited to 100 quotas and currency exchange can be conducted a maximum of three times per bank.
