Bank Indonesia’s Solo representative office has prepared new banknotes and currency in circulation totalling Rp 4.59 trillion to meet public demand ahead of Eid al-Fitr this year. The funds were distributed by Bank Indonesia through new currency exchange services, including mobile cash vehicles and banking networks across the greater Solo area.

Dwiyanto Cahyo Sumirat, head of Bank Indonesia’s Solo representative office, stated that the currency exchange service for Eid al-Fitr 2026 was held at Benteng Vastenburg Solo over three days from 11 to 13 March 2026. “We provided approximately 3,000 currency exchange packages. The service opened from 08.00 Western Indonesian Time,” said Dwiyanto on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

In this activity, Bank Indonesia partnered with several banks to serve the public’s currency exchange needs, including Bank Syariah Indonesia, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, CIMB Niaga, Bank Mandiri, Bank Negara Indonesia, Bank Muamalat Indonesia, and Bank Jateng.

Prior to the event at Benteng Vastenburg, Bank Indonesia Solo had also held currency exchange services at four mosques in Solo City during early Ramadan. Citizens could exchange new currency by registering through Bank Indonesia’s currency exchange website, PINTAR. If the quota on that system became full, the public could still utilise the exchange service through partner banks.

According to Dwiyanto, the currency exchange service system operated more smoothly this year compared to the previous year. In 2025, the system experienced technical difficulties such as slow processing or frequent disruptions. “This year the system is much better. Citizens find it easier to obtain exchange tickets through PINTAR and so far queues have been running smoothly,” he said.

Bank Indonesia projected that cash currency demand in the greater Solo area this year increased compared to last year. During the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2025 period, the distribution of currency in circulation in the region was recorded at approximately Rp 4.1 trillion.

Meanwhile, observations at Benteng Vastenburg on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 showed queues of residents visible since morning at the currency exchange service area. They arrived in succession to exchange large denomination notes for smaller denominations typically used for the tradition of giving during Eid al-Fitr.

Residents waiting in queues were provided with large tents in the area. When it was their turn, residents were called according to their queue number to exchange new currency at exchange service vehicles assigned by officials.

One resident from Pucangsawit, Jebres district, Solo, named Firman, stated that the new denomination notes he exchanged would be distributed to his family and children in his residential area. “For gifts to my nieces and nephews and children around the house,” he said.

Firman said he regularly exchanges new currency every time before Eid al-Fitr. This year, he registered first through the exchange system provided by Bank Indonesia before coming to the venue. According to him, the queuing process ran relatively quickly despite the large number of residents who came. “Yes, there were queues but not long. It was just very hot and sunny,” he said with a laugh.
