Jakarta — Bank Indonesia (BI) has reminded all Indonesian citizens to properly maintain their rupiah banknotes through a “5 Don’ts” campaign.

The announcement was made by Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia Ricky P. Gozali during a press conference of the central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee held online on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

“For those receiving holiday allowances and exchanging their money, we urge you to remember the 5 Don’ts: don’t fold, don’t write on, don’t staple, don’t crease, and don’t wet your banknotes,” Gozali said.

By adhering to the “5 Don’ts,” the public will help preserve the rupiah as a symbol of Indonesia’s sovereignty and national pride. Bank Indonesia has allocated Rp185.6 trillion for cash exchange purposes, divided between banking institutions and direct public exchanges.

“This amount represents a 15 per cent increase compared to last year, as we anticipate strong economic growth and increased demand from the public,” Gozali explained. “We have expanded our direct exchange package so more people can participate.”

Gozali also noted that significant public enthusiasm for cash exchanges is reflected in realisation rates already exceeding those of the previous year, having reached 91 per cent of projected figures.
