Bank Indonesia Imposes New Limits on US Dollar Cash Purchases
Bank Indonesia (BI) has issued new policy measures to support rupiah exchange rate stability by lowering the limit on US dollar purchases.
“Strengthening foreign exchange market transaction policy that will take effect in April 2026 to support rupiah exchange rate stability,” said Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo at a press conference following the Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
The policy details include adjusting the cash foreign exchange purchase threshold against the rupiah from US$100,000 per individual per month to US$50,000 per individual per month.
Additionally, the central bank has increased the threshold for selling DNDF/Forward contracts from US$5 million per transaction to US$10 million per transaction.
Bank Indonesia has also increased the thresholds for buying and selling swaps from US$5 million to US$10 million per transaction.
