Bank in Jakarta Shut Down as OJK Revokes Business Licence Over This Reason
PT Bank Perekonomian Rakyat Koperindo Jaya, located in Jakarta, has had its business licence officially revoked by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on 9 March 2026. This is outlined in announcement PENG-1/KO.11/2026.
“In connection with the revocation of the business licence of PT BPR Koperindo Jaya, all offices of PT BPR Koperindo Jaya are closed to the public and PT BPR Koperindo Jaya has ceased all business activities,” as stated in the official notice.
Following this, the settlement of the rights and obligations of PT BPR Koperindo Jaya will be carried out by a Liquidation Team to be formed by the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) in accordance with applicable regulations and legislation.
“The Board of Directors, Board of Commissioners, and/or Shareholders of PT BPR Koperindo Jaya are prohibited from taking any legal actions related to the assets and liabilities of the BPR except with written approval from the LPS,” it emphasised.
Previously, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) revealed that the revocation of business licences for Rural Banks (BPR) and Sharia Rural Banks (BPRS) is mainly caused by fraud and poor management.
Nevertheless, OJK’s Executive Head of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, stated that the decline in the number of BPR/BPRS closures aligns with efforts to strengthen the industry.
As is known, only seven BPR/BPRS had their business licences revoked by OJK throughout 2025. This figure is a significant decrease from the previous year, which totalled 20 BPR/BPRS.
“We can state that the BPR/BPRS whose licences were revoked by OJK in recent years are those experiencing problems and poor performance due to fraud incidents or inadequate application of good corporate governance principles and prudential principles,” said Dian during the December 2025 Commissioners’ Meeting press conference on Friday (9/1/2026).
