Bank customer robbed of Rp 25m in Kebayoran
JAKARTA (JP): One of two robbers at the parking lot of a bank on Jl. Melawai, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, shot a customer yesterday and made away with Rp 25 million (US$10,200) in cash.
City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said the incident occurred at about 9 a.m. when the two men approached the victim Ahmad Loga, 77, who was about to leave his parked sedan at Bank Central Asia.
"One of the men suddenly shot Ahmad in the right leg and immediately grabbed his bag containing the money," Aritonang said.
He said Ahmad, a pensioner of the Ministry of Public Works, tried to protect the bag but the robber was too strong for him.
The robbers managed to relieve the victim of the bag and escaped on a Yamaha motorcycle before the victim called out for help, he said.
The victim was then rushed to Pertamina Hospital in South Jakarta, he said.
Ahmad told police that he had just withdrawn the money from Bank Bumi Daya on Jl. Falatehan, in Blok M, and tried to transfer the money to his son through Bank Central Asia, he said.
Police believed Ahmad was followed by the robbers after he left Bank Bumi Daya.
"We have identified the men. We are still looking for them," Aritonang said.
Ahmad's green metallic sedan was still in Kebayoran Baru Police subprecinct yesterday.
The bullet hit the front seat of the sedan after hitting Ahmad's right leg, a police source said.
He said a bullet was found in the front seat but refused to mention the type of gun used by the men.
Aritonang said police were also looking for two other men who attempted to rob a bank customer of Rp 24 million in a parking lot of a bank in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Friday and then stabbed the customer and a police officer.
Yunardi, who accompanied his sisters depositing money at Bank Central Asia's Tebet branch, was stabbed in the back while Sgt. Major Widianto suffered a slash to the head.
The robbers managed to escape on a Yamaha motorcycle, but failed to grab the money. (jun)
