Bangunkarta and Singasari Trains Officially Use New Generation Stainless Steel Sets
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI is introducing an enhancement to services on the KA Bangunkarta route between Pasar Senen and Jombang (return) and the KA Singasari route between Pasar Senen and Blitar (return) through the use of Stainless Steel New Generation train sets starting Wednesday (15/4/2026). KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that long-distance journeys on these two routes now feel more comfortable with a more modern train atmosphere and spacious interiors.
“KA Bangunkarta and KA Singasari have long been part of public travel. KA Bangunkarta originated from the KA Tebuireng service in 1985, serving Jombang-Jakarta, and has since evolved to meet customer needs over time,” said Anne in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
Meanwhile, Anne continued, KA Singasari continues the long journey from previous services that once traversed long routes across Java Island, and now serves Blitar-Pasar Senen. With continuously increasing mobility, Anne added, facility updates are being carried out to ensure journeys remain comfortable and in line with customer expectations.
“On this service, the Stainless Steel New Generation sets are used for KA 161 Bangunkarta on the Jombang-Pasar Senen route, KA 162 Bangunkarta on the Pasar Senen-Jombang route, KA 149 Singasari on the Blitar-Pasar Senen route, and KA 150 Singasari on the Pasar Senen-Blitar route,” Anne further explained.
Anne stated that this enhancement is part of ongoing service updates. KAI, Anne continued, is implementing a procurement programme for 612 Stainless Steel New Generation train units from PT INKA (Persero) by the end of 2026.
“To date, 391 trains have been realised and are beginning to be used to improve passenger travel comfort,” said Anne.
Anne mentioned that this service enhancement aligns with the growth in passenger numbers. In the first quarter of 2026, Anne added, KA Bangunkarta served 108,711 passengers, an increase from 100,703 passengers in the same period the previous year. KA Singasari served 110,405 passengers, up from 97,008 passengers in the first quarter of 2025.
Anne said this movement indicates that trains remain a choice for various travel needs. The increasingly dynamic societal activities are also driving inter-regional mobility, while opening access to various tourist destinations and economic centres along the tracks.
“Through the Stainless Steel New Generation sets, passengers experience more ergonomic seating, more spacious legroom, and a more modern and fresh cabin atmosphere, especially for journeys with fairly long durations,” said Anne.
