Bang Jago 'Wind Kicker' Suspected of Drunken Assault on Teenagers
Police have arrested two men in Central Jakarta for assaulting two teenagers. The suspects attacked the victims after they attempted to intervene in a dispute with a taxi driver.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, stated that the assault occurred on Bungur Besar Raya Street in Kemayoran, near Senen Market and a petrol station in the Bungur area at around 3:15 am on Sunday (24 May).
According to police reports, approximately four individuals initially confronted a taxi driver, and when one of the victims’ friends attempted to intervene, he was punched by two of the four suspects,” said Roby on Friday (29 May 2026).
The two arrested men, identified as SS (26) and ASA (23), initially grabbed and punched victim FMS.
When he saw his friend being assaulted, victim EBTW tried to assist but was also attacked.
A petrol station attendant also attempted to intervene as the suspects punched and kicked the victims, with one sustaining facial bleeding.
Another victim was temporarily restrained by an accomplice not involved in the assault. The attack by the ‘Bang Jago’ was captured on camera by local residents and went viral on social media.
Police are investigating the ‘Bang Jago’ assault on teenagers as no formal police report had been filed by the victims. Authorities then verified the identities of the victims and suspects, along with the time and location of the incident.
“A video went viral on social media showing members of the public using violence or acting tough. Upon learning of this, the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police swiftly acted through social media patrols,” said Roby.
Police then identified the victims and encouraged them to file an official police report after communication.
“We obtained the victims’ identities, visited them, and summoned them to the station to file a police report,” he added.
Investigations revealed that four suspects were involved in the incident and were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Both suspects surrendered to police after the video went viral, with their cooperation attributed to police persuasion efforts.
In addition to intensive searches, authorities mobilised community policing posts and local leaders. Through this approach, police urged respected figures in the suspects’ community to encourage cooperation.
“SS and ASA are the perpetrators in the viral video. Aware that the video had gone viral and was in police custody, they voluntarily came to the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police station for questioning and were subsequently arrested,” he stated.
The suspects face charges under Article 262 of Law No. 1 of 2023 for group assault. They could be sentenced to five to seven years in prison, depending on the severity of injuries sustained by the victims. Police are currently conducting investigations and awaiting the forensic medical report.
