Bandung worker killed in accident

BANDUNG, West Java: Sixty-year old Apidin, the head security guard with a textile company, died on Thursday after being struck by a forklift.

Imam Santoso, also 60, was using the forklift to move a quantity of yarn in the warehouse of PT Inti Gunawan Tex, Antara reported.

Witnesses said Iman, who might not have been aware that Apidin was standing at a corner watching the process, plowed right through the victim with the forklift.

Apidin is survived by his wife and two children. Police are still investigating the accident.

Separately on Thursday, Bandung resident Mrs. Ruki, 60, died instantly after a car smashed through the front of her house, in which she had been babysitting her five-month-old grandson.

The car was driven by Mrs. Teti, who was learning to drive under the instruction of her husband. Antara reported that Teti lost control of the car, panicked, and hit the accelerator instead of the brake. (swe)
