Bandung City Government Reviews Timing for Weekly Work-from-Home and Distance Learning for Schoolchildren
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – The Bandung City Government is currently reviewing the timing for implementing work from home (WFH) once a week, as planned by the central government to save fuel oil. They are still awaiting technical guidelines and implementation instructions from the central government.
“We are still waiting for the implementation regulations and technical guidelines,” said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan recently at Leuwipanjang Terminal.
He explained that the West Java Provincial Government suggests implementing WFH every Thursday, while the central government recommends Friday. Therefore, they are still studying the timing of implementation if WFH is carried out.
In addition, they are also considering whether schools can apply distance learning (PJJ). “We are still assessing the situation, including considering whether schools need to implement PJJ,” he said.
Previously, the Government confirmed that the work-from-home policy would be implemented after Eid as an energy-saving effort amid the rise in world oil prices.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that this policy applies to civil servants (ASN) and is also urged for the private sector. “(The regulations) for WFH will be detailed. But after Eid, we will implement it, for ASN as well as recommendations for the private sector. However, it does not apply to public service sectors,” Airlangga said after Eid al-Fitr prayers in Jakarta on Saturday (21/3/2026).
Airlangga emphasised that the WFH policy will only apply for one day per week. He added that the government will also coordinate with the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure effective implementation.
