Bandung City Government Prioritises BRT Project and Electric Angkot Fleet Renewal
The year 2026 is an infrastructure year. We will carry out repairs on almost all road sections, while simultaneously strengthening the public transportation system.
Bandung City (ANTARA) - The Bandung City Government has set 2026 as a momentum to prioritise improvements to the public transportation system through the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and the renewal of electric-based city transport (angkot) vehicles.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that strengthening the public transportation sector is the top priority, in line with the performance evaluation results that remain below the level of public satisfaction.
“This year is the year of infrastructure. We will carry out repairs on almost all road sections, while simultaneously strengthening the public transportation system,” Farhan said in Bandung on Friday.
According to him, the development of BRT services with support from the central government, particularly the Ministry of Transportation, is expected to become the backbone of mass transportation in Bandung City.
In addition to BRT, the Bandung City Government will also renew angkots gradually by adopting electric vehicle technology.
This transformation, he said, not only aims to improve the comfort and efficiency of services but also supports emission reduction and the creation of a cleaner environment.
“We will encourage angkots to switch to an electric system. This is part of the environmentally friendly transportation transformation,” he said.
Farhan acknowledged that there are still several challenges in implementing the programme, but he is optimistic that it can be resolved gradually.
“We realise there are many challenges, but the important thing is that the work progresses and the benefits can be felt directly by the community,” he said.
