In preparation for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, the Bandung City Government through the Water Resources and Roads Development Office (DSDABM) conducted a large-scale cleaning operation across several strategic areas on Wednesday, 18 March. The measure was taken to ensure comfort for residents and worshippers during the final days of Ramadan.

The simultaneous operation targeted public areas and places of worship, ranging from the Bandung Town Square, the Grand Mosque of Bandung, to the Pusdai Mosque area. Beyond field personnel, the activity also involved full support from local area officials.

At the Town Square, workers were seen spraying pavements to remove accumulated dirt whilst clearing water channels to prevent blockages. Similar conditions were observed at the pedestrian pathway of the Grand Mosque of Bandung, where workers collectively ensured the area, which is frequently crowded with residents, was free from rubbish.

Meanwhile, at the Pusdai Mosque area, workers in high-visibility vests focused on drainage cleaning and removal of dried leaves that filled the pedestrian pathway.

Henryco Arie Sapiie, Head of the Bandung City Communication and Information Office, stated that this inter-agency collaboration was the key to accelerating city arrangements ahead of Eid. “Pavement conditions that were previously filled with dust, rubbish, and fallen leaves now appear cleaner and tidier. Pedestrian areas have become more comfortable to pass through, whether for residents or worshippers conducting activities around the mosques,” explained Henryco.

According to him, cleaning areas of worship became a priority for the Bandung City Government to provide the best service to the public who wished to worship with devotion. Through this action, the city government also hoped to maintain public awareness in preserving public facilities on a sustained basis. “The Bandung City Government also invites residents to participate in maintaining public facilities to remain clean, not only ahead of major religious days but also in daily life,” he concluded.

Cleaning personnel came from five Environmental Health Sub-Offices of the Administrative City and the Waste Handling Unit of the Water Agency.
