Bandung Cilok Vendor Walks and Hitches Rides to Ciamis for Eid
A cilok vendor named Asep Kumala Seta (31) has decided to travel home from Bandung to Ciamis by walking and hitching rides on trucks. Asep is making this journey in this manner due to limited funds.
According to detikJabar, Asep normally sells cilok by going around neighbourhoods in the Cibaduyut area. This year’s Eid is different. Financial limitations mean he cannot afford to buy a ticket to go home.
However, his longing for his mother motivates him to set off for his hometown in Ciamis Regency, by walking and hitching whatever vehicles are available.
“I left on foot from Cibaduyut around 12 noon, then took a Damri bus from Leuwi Panjang to Cibiru. After that, my money was just enough, so I immediately hitched a ride on a truck to Rancaekek, and then continued on another truck to Nagreg,” said Asep when met in front of the Cikaledong Post in Nagreg on Tuesday night (17/3/2026).
The journey did not always go according to plan. He once got a lift on a truck heading towards Garut, but the vehicle turned towards Kadungora instead. With no other choice, he got off and continued on foot until he reached Cikaledong.
He is carrying a backpack containing clothes, shoes, camping gear, and a stove from his rented room. His Eid provisions are simple: he is bringing cilok and syrup.
Asep claims to have been selling cilok for the past two years. His routine is repetitive: working for a few months in Bandung, then returning to his hometown on foot. “But sales have been down for over a month now; a day I only earn Rp100,000, pay Rp70,000 in dues, so I get Rp30,000,” he revealed.
