Ban all firecrackers
Ban all firecrackers
From Media Indonesia
The Bogor branch of the Indonesian Association of the Handicapped is a public organization that provides skills and training for the handicapped. It also monitors public events and problems.
One problem we expect to encounter during the month of Ramadhan is the use of firecrackers, mostly by students. They will be heard even more this year as Chinese New Year falls around the same time as Idul Fitri. Firecrackers have long been banned but people get their hand on them nonetheless.
Firecrackers disturb the peace of those fasting and also pose a danger to the public. We would like to prevent accidents and suggest the following:
1. The authorities should enforce the ban and prohibit the production, burning, storing and distribution of firecrackers.
2. Shop and kiosk owners, or anyone in possession of firecrackers, should hand them over to the authorities.
3. People involved in the production of firecrackers should switch their business to something less harmful.
4. As for the kids who like to play with firecrackers, why not spend your money on something positive or donate money to orphanages whose members observe Idul Fitri.
