The Bogor branch of the Indonesian Association of the
\nHandicapped is a public organization that provides skills and
\ntraining for the handicapped. It also monitors public events and
\nproblems.<\/p>\n
One problem we expect to encounter during the month of
\nRamadhan is the use of firecrackers, mostly by students. They
\nwill be heard even more this year as Chinese New Year falls
\naround the same time as Idul Fitri. Firecrackers have long been
\nbanned but people get their hand on them nonetheless.<\/p>\n
Firecrackers disturb the peace of those fasting and also pose
\na danger to the public. We would like to prevent accidents and
\nsuggest the following:<\/p>\n
1. The authorities should enforce the ban and prohibit the
\nproduction, burning, storing and distribution of firecrackers.<\/p>\n
2. Shop and kiosk owners, or anyone in possession of
\nfirecrackers, should hand them over to the authorities.<\/p>\n
3. People involved in the production of firecrackers should
\nswitch their business to something less harmful.<\/p>\n
4. As for the kids who like to play with firecrackers, why not
\nspend your money on something positive or donate money to
\norphanages whose members observe Idul Fitri.<\/p>\n
