Bamsoet Says Jeep PERIKHSA 4X4 Community is an Effort to Build Nationalism
Member of Parliament Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) stated that the presence of the Jeep PERIKHSA 4X4 community is part of efforts to build nationalism, especially amid increasingly complex social challenges.
In the midst of global and domestic dynamics filled with uncertainty, hobby-based communities with high discipline are seen as having the potential to become a new relevant social force for national resilience.
Off-road activities demand physical endurance, leadership, teamwork, and the ability to make decisions in difficult conditions. These values align with the concept of national defence, which emphasises citizens’ readiness in facing various threats, both natural disasters and social crises.
“Nationalism in the modern era is no longer solely understood in the formal context of statehood, but also through everyday practices, including in hobby communities. The Jeep PERIKHSA 4X4 community serves as an example of how national defence values can be instilled through enjoyable activities, such as off-road challenges that test endurance, teamwork, and decision-making in difficult terrain,” said Bamsoet in a written statement on Sunday (19/4/2026).
He conveyed this after releasing the Jeep 4X4 Community Ride at the Senayan Parliament Building in Jakarta on Sunday (19/4).
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Jeep Association of Owners of Special Permits for Self-Defence Firearms (PERIKHSA) 4X4 COMMUNITY stated that the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded more than 3,000 disaster events in Indonesia throughout 2025.
Dominated by floods, landslides, and extreme weather. In many cases, limited access to affected areas has become the main obstacle to aid distribution.
“This is where 4X4 vehicle communities have mobility advantages not possessed by ordinary vehicles. Various off-road communities in Indonesia have been involved in evacuation and logistics distribution in remote areas, demonstrating that hobby communities can transform into effective informal social infrastructure,” said the 20th Speaker of the DPR RI.
Bamsoet added that Indonesia is currently facing increasingly multidimensional national resilience challenges, from cyber threats and disinformation to potential identity-based social conflicts.
A resilience model that relies solely on the state is no longer sufficient. Organised civil society involvement with real field capacity is needed.
Communities like PERIKHSA or PERIKHSA 4X4, with a combination of discipline, networks, and mobility, have the opportunity to become part of the solution.
“The brotherhood spirit built in automotive and shooting sports communities is a very strong social capital in maintaining national unity. PERIKHSA members are trained citizens who must be ready to stand at the forefront alongside other communities in facing various threats, both internal and external,” said the General Chairman (Ketum) of PERIKHSA.
