Balinese celebrate Saraswati Day
Denpasar, Bali: Dressed in traditional clothes and carrying offerings, thousands of Balinese gathered on early Saturday morning at temples, schools and universities to celebrate Saraswati Day, which comes every 210 days.
The Balinese, who have a strong belief in Hinduism, believe that the goddess Saraswati brought science and wisdom to enlighten people in the world.
During the day, the Balinese organize their books at home, especially those on Hinduism and science, because literature is the goddess Saraswati's legacy.
Scholar I Ketut Suarja said believers recite some verses from the Veda holy book to strengthen their faith. --Antara
