The Bali Mandara toll road will be temporarily closed for 32 hours during Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu New Year celebration for Çaka year 1948 (2026). PT Jasamarga Bali Tol (JTB) will implement the closure from Wednesday 18 March at 23:00 local time until Friday 20 March at 07:00 local time.

The closure is expected to trigger a surge in vehicle numbers the day before Nyepi. The toll operator predicts a significant increase in traffic volume on Tuesday 17 March 2026, with estimates reaching approximately 27,000 vehicles per day.

Jasa Marga Bali Tol Managing Director I Ketut Adiputra Karang stated that the closure follows the observance of Nyepi in Bali, when all activities are temporarily halted. “The toll road closure is approximately 32 hours. This follows the observance of Nyepi in Bali, so all activities are temporarily suspended,” he said during a press conference on toll operational readiness ahead of Nyepi and Lebaran on Thursday 12 March 2026.

Although closed, the Bali Mandara toll road can still be used in emergencies, such as for ambulances transporting patients or urgent medical needs.

PT Jasamarga Bali Tol’s Operations and Maintenance Manager I Putu Gandi Ginantra stated that the company has prepared several measures to anticipate the surge in vehicles ahead of the Lebaran holiday break. These measures include establishing road service posts, installing additional surveillance cameras (CCTV), and providing electronic toll cards (e-toll) for road users.

Gandi explained that the service post for toll road users began operating on 11 March 2026. The post is located in the drive-through area beneath the Benoa Flyover. He noted that the post was established to help toll users obtain information and assistance more easily while using the road.

Additionally, the toll operator has installed 117 surveillance cameras along the toll road to monitor traffic flow. Given that Bali frequently experiences rain and strong winds, the toll operator has also installed wind sensors at several toll gates to monitor weather conditions.

“We have also provided 12 mobile reader units to speed up transactions at toll gates, and around 15,000 toll cards for users whose balance has run out,” he added.

Gandi further noted that toll road users requiring assistance can contact the Call Centre at 133, which operates 24 hours daily.
