The Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov Bali) is preparing personnel to guard the Suwung Final Disposal Site (TPA Suwung) starting from 1 April 2026. They will monitor to ensure no more organic waste is dumped there, in line with the request from the Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

“Yes, starting from 1 April. There will be guards on duty there,” said the Head of the Forestry and Environmental Agency (DKLH) of Bali, I Made Dwi Arbani, when met at the Art Center in Denpasar on Thursday (26/3/2026). He also invited everyone to directly inspect the current conditions at TPA Suwung.

On the other hand, DKLH Bali continues to coordinate and socialise the waste sorting policy to related agencies, both the Denpasar City Government (Pemkot Denpasar) and the Badung Regency Government (Pemkab Badung).

Socialisation is also carried out to the public and waste self-management services so that their rubbish truck drivers no longer bring mixed waste to TPA Suwung. “We have already socialised it, and they are ready to do that,” Dwi explained.

According to Dwi, meetings related to solutions for organic waste problems are held every day by Pemprov Bali, Pemkot Denpasar, and Pemkab Badung. Various methods to address organic waste are discussed, such as modern composting, composter bags, reduce, reuse, recycle waste processing sites (TPS3R), and integrated waste processing sites (TPST).

“Waste must be resolved at the source. I think Denpasar and Badung have prepared strategies,” added the former Head of the Government and Public Welfare Bureau (Biro Pemkesra) of the Bali Regional Secretariat (Setda Bali).

Dwi emphasised that Minister Hanif Faisol’s decision to prohibit organic waste from being brought to TPA Suwung is appropriate. The reason is that organic waste causes odours and pollutes the sea and water. As a result, the solution must involve sorting.

After prohibiting the delivery of organic waste on 1 April, the next step is to close TPA Suwung. According to Dwi, the closure of TPA Suwung will take place on 1 August 2026. After TPA Suwung is closed, waste will be managed at each available site.

“Yes, on 1 August it will be completely closed. If not managed properly, it will become a time bomb,” Dwi clarified.
