Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Bali Regional Police (Polda Bali) have sent bone fragments from a human body found at Ketewel Beach, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, to Mabes Polri’s Forensic Laboratory for DNA testing (Deoxyribonucleic Acid).

The Head of Public Relations of Polda Bali, Senior Commissioner of Police Ariasandy, in Denpasar, on Wednesday, said there were six bone fragments that had been taken to Jakarta for further examination.

“Polda Bali received about six bone samples from the cadaver fragments found in Ketewel some time ago. We sent the samples to Jakarta and reported to Bareskrim Polri for DNA testing,” Ariasandy said.

According to him, the samples were sent to ensure a match with the family of the foreign national (WNA) victim in the suspected kidnapping case.

Ariasandy explained that DNA testing on the bone samples would be conducted at Mabes Polri’s Forensic Laboratory because it has adequate technology to test bone tissue.

He said the testing is an alternative because the soft tissue from the recovered fragments is damaged and cannot be secured as a DNA sample. The alternative is the bone tissue, which has technology at Puslabfor Bareskrim Polri,” Ariasandy stated.

According to him, the condition of the damaged body tissue makes it impossible to secure as a DNA sample.

Therefore, investigators will use the tissue contained in the bone for forensic identification.

Ariasandy added that the DNA test results are expected to be known in the coming days.

“Polda Bali is still awaiting the official results from Mabes Polri’s Forensic Laboratory,” he noted.

After the DNA results are received, he said, investigators will compare them with several DNA samples secured from various locations at the crime scene (TKP).

Additionally, the comparison will also be made with the DNA sample of the foreign national mother suspected of being the victim, which investigators previously obtained as a reference sample.

He stated that this DNA testing is an important part of the investigation process to determine the identity of the bone fragments found on Ketewel Beach.

Polda Bali stated it will provide further updates to the public after the DNA results from Bareskrim Polri are received and analysed.

“We will wait for the results in the coming days,” he said.

The discovery of the human bone fragments is believed to be connected to the kidnapping of Ukrainian national Ihor Komarav (28). Ihor Komarav was reported missing on Sunday (15/2), suspected to have been abducted by unknown individuals.

According to the victim’s complainant, at the time the victim and his colleagues were preparing to practice motorcycling on a slope in Jimbaran, Badung Regency, Bali.

The victim, who was being ridden by one of his companions at the back, was attacked by unknown assailants during the journey.

The riding companion managed to escape and reported to his friends ahead that Ihor had been abducted by unknown individuals.

After the incident, the victim’s friend reported the incident to the Kuta Selatan Police.

Not long after, a video broadcast live by the victim Ihor showed him at a villa and asking his family for a ransom.

The police then conducted investigations at the location where the victim took the video, and the DNA test of a bloodstain at that location matched the blood in a car that is believed to have been used by the suspects.
