DNA testing has become crucial in solving the mystery surrounding the discovery of human body parts in the estuary of the Wos Teben River, Ketewel Village, Gianyar, which has been linked to the alleged abduction of a Ukrainian national in Jimbaran, South Kuta, Badung. The Bali Police Regional Command is awaiting forensic identification results to determine whether there is any connection between the two incidents.

The case began when residents were alarmed by the discovery of human body parts that washed up in the river mouth in the Ketewel area on Thursday, 26 February. Several body parts were found in a separated state and were immediately evacuated for forensic examination purposes.

At almost the same time, police also handled a report of the alleged abduction of a Ukrainian national in the Jimbaran area. That report is currently still under investigation.

Head of Public Relations at the Bali Police Regional Command, Brigadier Ariasandy, emphasised that both cases are currently being handled separately. However, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) matching processes are being conducted to confirm the identity of the body parts that were found.

“These are two different cases. One involves an abduction that is ongoing. As for the body parts discovered yesterday, they are currently being identified to determine whose body parts these are through DNA matching, including matching against the DNA of the parents of the alleged abduction victim,” he said when contacted on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Ariasandy stated that police had coordinated with the family of the alleged abduction victim to obtain DNA samples for comparison.

“That is why we coordinated with the family concerned to request DNA samples,” he explained.

Although the matching process is underway, police have not yet been able to conclude whether the discovery of the body parts is connected to the report of the alleged abduction of the Ukrainian national in Jimbaran. A definitive answer, according to Ariasandy, can only be provided after the official results from the forensic team are released.

“We will wait for the results from the DVI team at the Medical and Health Division of the Bali Police Regional Command,” he affirmed.

Currently, the identity of the body parts discovered in Ketewel remains unknown. The DVI team and the forensic laboratory of the Bali Police Regional Command are continuing to work on identification through DNA testing and matching of other data.
