Bali Investment Concentration Remains High, Widiyanti Putri Calls for Balanced Strategy
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated the need for a sustainable investment distribution strategy across Indonesia, as investment concentration in areas like Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu, and Ubud in Bali remains high.
She noted that Indonesia recorded 15.39 million foreign tourist arrivals, with nearly 7 million concentrated in Bali.
“These figures reflect growing international confidence in Indonesia as a tourism destination and investment hub, with Bali remaining the heart of national tourism growth,” the Minister said at the 2026 Investor Roundtable held at Piasan Nusa Dua Restaurant in Badung Regency, Bali, on Friday, 29 May 2026.
As a concrete step, the Ministry of Tourism prioritises developing 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and other Regenerative Tourism Destinations as new economic growth centres.
“Indonesia is not just Bali. We have many premier destinations with vast tourism and investment potential awaiting responsible and sustainable development,” the Minister added.
These efforts align with global tourism trends emphasising sustainability, wellness tourism, and authentic, meaningful travel experiences.
Therefore, the Minister urged investors to explore emerging opportunities in Indonesia’s premier destinations beyond Bali to build a more balanced, inclusive, and sustainable tourism industry.
Through the Investor Roundtable forum, the Ministry of Tourism actively gathers input from investors, local governments, associations, and tourism industry players on ground-level challenges and required support to strengthen the tourism investment climate.
This feedback will be crucial in shaping future greener, more inclusive, competitive, and equitable tourism investment policies.
Additionally, Widiyanti outlined plans to develop an API-based verification system to ensure all accommodations marketed via digital platforms hold valid business permits, as part of efforts to improve the accommodation sector’s tourism business ecosystem governance, particularly in Bali.
Meanwhile, Acting Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism, Rizki Handayani, said the strategic forum brought together government representatives, Bali Provincial Government, tourism associations, investors, and industry players in an open and constructive dialogue.
According to Rizki, the forum serves to map current industry dynamics, identify challenges faced by businesses, and explore investment expansion opportunities in new Indonesian destinations.
Therefore, experiences and input from Bali’s tourism industry stakeholders are seen as strategically valuable references for developing national priority destinations.
“We consider this input invaluable, not only for strengthening Bali’s tourism investment ecosystem but also as crucial learning for developing the 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and other Regenerative Tourism Destinations,” Rizki added.
