Bali Industry and Trade Office Maps Commodities with Inflation Potential Ahead of Galungan
The Bali Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag) has begun mapping strategic commodities that have the potential to contribute to inflation ahead of the Galungan and Kuningan celebrations, which fall on Wednesday, 17 June to Saturday, 27 June 2026. Head of Disperindag Bali Ngurah Wiryanatha stated that this mapping will serve as the basis for supervision over the coming weeks to anticipate sharp price surges. “The monitoring focus is directed at commodities that typically experience demand spikes during Galungan and Kuningan, including rice, cooking oil, granulated sugar, chillies, shallots and garlic, chicken eggs, broiler chicken meat, pork, and religious ceremonial necessities,” he said in Denpasar on Thursday. Wiryanatha conveyed that two weeks before Galungan, the domestic trade division within Disperindag Bali has begun routine price monitoring at public markets, traditional markets, distributors, and trading centres to detect early potential price increases in these strategic commodities. In addition to monitoring, one of the main instruments for maintaining price stability is the holding of cheap markets or market operations, which will be conducted particularly in locations experiencing high price pressures or in areas where public purchasing power needs strengthening. He noted that the Bali Provincial Government’s intervention for major religious holidays covers not only prices but also stock levels available at distributors, agents, warehouses, and markets. “The goal is to ensure sufficient supply throughout the Galungan to Kuningan holiday series and to prevent goods shortages,” he said. “Disperindag, together with the food task force, is overseeing the distribution chain to ensure there is no hoarding or trading practices that could cause unreasonable price increases,” he added. During preparations for this major religious holiday, coordination will be carried out with the Bali Regional Police Food Task Force, the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), Bulog, the Agriculture Office, and related agencies to ensure smooth distribution and to anticipate hoarding practices and price speculation.
