Bali Hit by Mass Power Outage, PLN Reveals the Cause
Denpasar, VIVA – Residents across several areas of Bali were left anxious after electricity suddenly went out on Sunday evening, 22 February 2026. The disruption occurred almost simultaneously in several densely active areas including Badung Regency, Denpasar City, and Tabanan Regency, prompting a flood of reports on social media and to customer service channels.
PLN finally broke its silence and explained the cause of the incident. The blackout was confirmed not to be the result of a local fault, but rather a problem with the major transmission system connecting the power supply from Java to Bali.
PLN Bali Distribution Unit Communications Manager I Wayan Eka Susana confirmed that the disruption to the Java–Bali transmission network had a direct impact on the electricity supply to the Island of the Gods.
“Today, 22 February 2026, a disruption occurred in the transmission system which caused part of the electricity supply to Bali to be affected, resulting in outages across several areas,” said I Wayan Eka Susana in a statement in Denpasar on Sunday evening, as quoted by Antara.
PLN moved swiftly to normalise the system. Technical teams were deployed to restore the network whilst simultaneously tracing the source of the fault to prevent a recurrence. The recovery process was carried out in stages to maintain the stability of the electrical system.
The efforts bore fruit in a relatively short time. PLN confirmed that the entire electrical system in Bali was fully restored on Sunday evening.
“As of 8.36pm WITA, the power supply has returned to 100 per cent normal and the electrical system is stable across all areas of Bali,” said Eka.
PLN also extended its apologies to the public for the inconvenience caused. The state-owned enterprise affirmed that network monitoring would continue to ensure the reliability of the power supply.
“We apologise for the inconvenience experienced and express our gratitude for the understanding and patience of our customers,” said Eka.
For customers still experiencing power disruptions, PLN urged them to report immediately via Contact Centre 123 or the PLN Mobile application so that issues could be addressed promptly by field officers.
The incident occurred at approximately 7.47pm WITA and affected a number of areas in Badung, Denpasar, and Tabanan before the system was restored to stability in less than one hour.
