Bali DPRD Proposes Including Cleanliness Education in Early Childhood and Primary School Curricula
The Bali Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) proposes that issues of waste and environmental cleanliness be integrated into the education curriculum from an early age, starting from Early Childhood Education (PAUD), Kindergarten (TK), to Primary School (SD).
This proposal was put forward by Gede Kusuma Putra, Coordinator of the Accountability Statement Report (LKPJ) for the Bali Governor’s 2025 budget, during the Bali DPRD Plenary Meeting on Friday (24/4/2026).
“It is deemed necessary to conduct an in-depth study so that issues related to health, waste, and environmental cleanliness can be included in the education curriculum at the early childhood level, TK, and possibly SD,” said Putra.
According to him, waste problems are currently very much attached to Bali. He assessed that various efforts undertaken by the government so far have still focused on technological aspects.
However, he stated, without a change in mindset or public attitude, those efforts will not run optimally.
“But for the long term, if the public’s mindset does not change, the situation will remain the same as it is now, and technological advancements will be difficult to keep up, especially as the population continues to grow,” he explained.
Therefore, he emphasised the importance of providing understanding from an early age to children about the significance of maintaining environmental cleanliness, particularly through school education.
