The Bali Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) has revealed that many business operators are yet to utilise Balinese script. This was stated by Gede Kusuma Putra, Coordinator of the discussion on the Governor of Bali’s Accountability Report for the 2025 budget, during the Bali DPRD Plenary Session on Friday (24/4/2026).

Putra assessed that numerous business actors are negligent regarding the implementation of Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2018 on the Balinese Language, Script, and Literature.

“The Council reminds once again of the need to coordinate with district/city governments to take concrete actions against parties who are still negligent and remiss towards the implementation of Regional Regulation No. 1 of 2018 on the Balinese Language, Script, and Literature. Many examples have been found in the field,” said Putra.

In addition, the council provided notes for the government to increase investment in primary sectors such as agriculture. This step is deemed important to drive added value for goods or products produced.

“To boost or increase Bali Province’s per capita GRDP, which in fact every year on average is below the national level,” he stated.

The council also urged the government to conduct in-depth studies on the amount of aid for traditional villages and subak. This is to ensure principles of justice in the provision and receipt of aid at the village level.

Putra also spotlighted a paradox in Bali’s macroeconomic indicators. He assessed that stunting rates are increasing amid controlled inflation and a decline in poverty figures.

“Why is stunting increasing? Even if it’s small, isn’t this a paradox? Honestly, I’m worried that the data might not be accurate yet. With such macroeconomic conditions, logically, there shouldn’t be an increase in stunting,” explained the PDIP politician.

Furthermore, the council highlighted efforts to increase levies on foreign tourists, control land use conversions, and nominee practices, which are deemed in need of deeper review.

“To consider the possibility of new regulations on building heights in certain zones or for specific purposes, as long as it does not harm the radius of sanctity,” he emphasised.
