Denpasar (ANTARA) - Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport welcomed the arrival of 50 monks from three countries who will participate in the Indonesia Walk for Peace (IWFP) 2026, a spiritual journey as well as a peace campaign.

“I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport extends a warm welcome to all IWFP participating monks; we feel honoured to be part of the arrival of these monks who will begin their spiritual Thudong journey,” said General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Nugroho Jati in Denpasar on Friday.

He expressed pride that Bali’s airport has become the main gateway for the arrival of these monks who will carry a universal message about peace.

The 50 monks hail from Thailand, Laos, and Malaysia; departing from Bali, they will walk across various regions in Indonesia as a symbol of spreading values of peace, tolerance, and harmony among people.

“The presence of these monks in Bali brings a positive message regarding the importance of maintaining peace, harmony, and brotherhood in a diverse society; we hope this spiritual journey can provide inspiration to many parties,” Nugroho Jati stated.

According to records, the IWFP 2026 participating monks landed at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali at 9:30 PM WITA on Thursday (7/5), using AirAsia flight number AK374 on the Kuala Lumpur - Denpasar route.

Upon arrival in Bali, the airport management immediately provided support services to ensure the group’s arrival proceeded smoothly and comfortably, along with a welcoming ceremony as a gesture of respect to the monks.

“The arrival process for the monks ran smoothly with support from various agencies, including Immigration, Customs, and the Quarantine Office; all airport service facilities were also ensured to be in prime condition,” Nugroho Jati said.

The Indonesia Walk for Peace is a ritual spiritual journey across regions or Thudong, aimed at spreading the spirit of peace and humanitarian values, in commemoration of Vesak Day.

The 50 monks arriving in Bali will cover thousands of kilometres on foot across various cities in Bali, East Java, Central Java, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, ending at Borobudur Temple in Magelang.

To support this peace campaign mission, Nugroho Jati assured that the airport is committed to providing inclusive services supporting various international, cultural, or spiritual activities that have a positive impact on society and Bali’s tourism.
