Badung – The operator of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, has formed a Nyepi Post, as well as an Integrated Lebaran Air Transport Post, due to the overlap of the two major religious holidays.

“To support the smooth operation of the posts and ensure service standards and compliance with regulations as well as security aspects, we are taking steps including deploying around 2,900 personnel to work at these posts,” said Goentoro, head of Airport Operation and Security Services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Badung Regency, on Sunday.

He said the Lebaran Transport Post will operate from 13-30 March 2026, so all procedures are already being prepared to ensure the airport is ready to serve.

The personnel to be deployed will be assigned to tasks; the Lebaran Transport Post will operate 24 hours a day for 18 days.

At I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, the posts are located at the domestic arrivals terminal as the main post and another at Gedung Wisti Sabha, or the crossing into the airport area, as the traffic post.

Goentoro regards these posts as important because an increase in air travel is projected compared with ordinary days and Lebaran 2025.

“We are fairly optimistic that there will be growth of movement by around 1 percent compared with last year; we predict that over the 18 days we will serve around 1.1 million passengers with around 6,700 aircraft movements,” he said.

The airport authorities explained that the projection is supported by government policy enabling remote work (WFA) to reduce congestion of the mudik exodus, school holidays, and the Nyepi festival.

There is also encouragement from airlines, which have begun filing requests for additional flights. Goentoro said so far four airlines have filed, including Citilink, Lion Air, AirAsia, and Pelita Air, requesting additional services on routes Jakarta Cengkareng, Surabaya, Labuan Bajo, and Balikpapan.

“This is certainly what increases our optimism that this post will experience growth, albeit only 1 percent, and we predict the peak on 18 March, coinciding with Nyepi, when around 71,000 people are projected to move through the airport,” he said.

Meanwhile, on 19 March, Nyepi Day itself is expected to stop around 440 aircraft movements and about 65,000 potential daily passengers will be lost.

Nevertheless, this situation is normal for I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport; Nyepi has become a draw in its own right.

To ensure Nyepi runs smoothly, airport personnel will ensure that by the night of 18 March there are no passengers remaining in the airport, thus the 24-hour period from 19 March to 20 March will be conducive.

In addition to staffing, at the Lebaran Transport Post the Bali Selatan airport authorities will also prepare emergency contingency procedures, disruption management, including adverse weather contingencies.

To support the service, during the post period thematic activities will be held as passenger entertainment, including parade ahead of Nyepi and Lebaran and prize giveaways.
