Bandar Lampung (ANTARA) – The operator of the Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar Toll Road (Bakter) has confirmed the readiness of services and infrastructure to accommodate the surge in homecoming and return traffic during the 2026 Eid holiday period.

“By 11 days before Eid, operational readiness of the toll road section has reached 99.9 per cent,” said I Wayan Mandia, Director of PT Bakauheni Terbanggi Besar Toll (BTB), during an Eid Alert Assembly at Rest Area KM 87B of the Bakter Toll Road section, Tuesday.

He stated that all major repair work on the toll road section has been completed. The company has also deployed road maintenance teams, including pothole management teams, coldmix material stocks, and task forces to handle flooding and aquaplaning during the homecoming period.

“Overall, the toll road is well prepared to serve the public travelling for the 2026 Eid holiday,” said I Wayan Mandia.

Based on police data, public movement during the 2026 Eid homecoming period is projected to reach 143.9 million people, a decrease of approximately 1.75 per cent compared to the previous year. This condition is also expected to influence vehicle volume on the Bakter toll road.

The homecoming surge is predicted to occur on 14–19 March 2026, whilst the peak return traffic is estimated to take place on 24–25 March and 28–29 March 2026. During last year’s Eid transport period, 1,005,654 vehicles were recorded passing through the Bakter toll road between 21 March and 10 April 2025.

Wayan explained that to anticipate vehicle queues, particularly at busy toll gates, the operator has increased personnel and prepared mobile readers to accelerate transactions. Special lanes are also provided for vehicles with insufficient electronic card balance to avoid obstructing other vehicles.

Additionally, in accordance with a joint decision letter (SKB) regulating Eid transport traffic, vehicles with three or more axles are restricted from using the toll road from 13 to 29 March 2026, except for vehicles carrying basic necessities, logistics, and disaster relief.

Together with the South Lampung Police, the toll operator has also cleared parking areas at several rest areas of vehicles with three or more axles starting 7 March 2026, including at Rest Areas KM 49, KM 33, and KM 20, to ensure parking space availability for holiday travellers.

During the homecoming and return periods, the operator will also conduct microsleep sympathy operations at rest areas and issue warnings to road users through banners, loudspeakers, and social media to rest if feeling tired or drowsy.

To improve the comfort of holiday travellers, various facilities at rest areas have been strengthened, including additional cleaning staff, provision of semi-permanent toilets, and security, health, and service posts from ASDP Indonesia Ferry. Official workshops are also available at Rest Area KM 49A.

Additionally, two new fuel stations have begun operations at Rest Areas KM 49B and 20A, expected to meet fuel requirements for holiday travellers during their journey.

As an additional service, towing vehicles are provided free of charge to toll road users. Currently, two towing units and nine recovery vehicles with a capacity of 5 to 25 tonnes are available.

To anticipate congestion heading towards Bakauheni Port, the operator has also prepared delay systems at several rest areas such as KM 87B, KM 49B, KM 33B, and KM 20B to regulate vehicle flow and prevent congestion in the port area.

“With these various preparations, we hope that the public’s homecoming journey through the Bakter toll road can proceed safely, comfortably, and smoothly,” said I Wayan Mandia.
