Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has urged the public to be prudent when purchasing fuel. According to Bahlil, a private car’s tank can be adequately filled with 50 litres of fuel per day.

Bahlil made this statement during the government’s policy announcement to anticipate potential global crises, broadcast from Seoul, South Korea.

“In our view as a former angkot driver, it is reasonable and prudent to fill a car with 50 litres for one day, which would fill the tank for the day. We will encourage this,” said Bahlil, as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

Golkar Party Chairman stated that the government cannot work alone in anticipating global crises. Therefore, he requested public cooperation. “For things that are not too essential, we ask that we also act prudently,” said Bahlil.

The government has officially announced several policies as mitigation and anticipation measures for global dynamics, including curbing fuel consumption.

On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the national fuel stock is currently safe. The economic condition, he said, is also stable. Nevertheless, the government has decided that behavioural changes are necessary so that the public remains calm and productive.

The government has also urged the public to consume fuel prudently and appropriately each day. This is to ensure fair and stable distribution.

To ensure the public consumes fuel reasonably, the government is imposing purchase limits using the MyPertamina barcode. Each vehicle can fill up to 50 litres of fuel per day. This restriction does not apply to trucks and public transport. “To ensure fuel distribution, the government will regulate purchases,” said Airlangga.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts for energy independence and efficiency, the government will implement the B50 programme, mandating a 50 per cent blend of vegetable fuel (biodiesel) based on crude palm oil (CPO) with 50 per cent diesel fuel. This policy, effective from 1 July 2026, is claimed to reduce the use of fossil-based fuel by millions of kilolitres (KL).

“Pertamina is ready to implement the blending, and this has the potential to reduce the use of fossil-based fuel by 4 million KL. In six months, there will also be subsidy savings from biodiesel estimated at Rp48 trillion,” said Airlangga.
