Bahlil Stresses Coal Supply for Power Plants Secure Through April
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has assured that coal supplies for PLN’s electricity generation remain secure through April 2026.
The minister said the government is continuing to monitor domestic coal demand while organising production through the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB).
“I can assure you that up to March–April there is no issue. We are continually following developments in coal requirements for PLN, while continuing to pay attention to quality and economical prices. This is what we are currently organising,” Bahlil said at a press conference at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, quoted on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
As is known, Bahlil emphasised his commitment to cutting coal production in 2026. This is intended to maintain market balance.
According to Bahlil, Indonesia itself supplies around 500–550 million tonnes of coal, or about 43% of the world’s total trade volume, which amounts to 1.3 billion tonnes per year. This situation has been cited as a driver of coal prices falling.
“Supply is abundant, demand is weak, so prices are cheap. We must recognise that the management of our natural resources, this is state-owned property and must be managed with care,”.
He also stressed that coal is a state asset that must be managed sustainably. The RKAB structuring is focused on ensuring national needs are met first.
