Bahlil Says Calculation of Non-Subsidised Fuel Prices is Nearly Complete
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has revealed that the calculation of fuel oil (BBM) prices, particularly for non-subsidised types, is nearly complete. As is known, the government did not adjust non-subsidised BBM prices in April 2026.
Bahlil stated that the government has coordinated with PT Pertamina (Persero) as well as other private fuel distributors. The results of the discussions on price evaluation are approaching the final stage.
“I would like to convey that the government directly regulates subsidised BBM. In accordance with the Minister of ESDM Regulation in 2022, non-subsidised BBM is based on market prices. We just need to see when the adjustment will be made, but my feeling, based on our meetings with Pertamina and private businesses, is that it is almost finished,” he said at the Ministry of ESDM office in Jakarta on Friday (17/4/2026).
The adjustment of non-subsidised BBM prices refers to regulations that require prices to follow market mechanisms. The government emphasises that although there is potential for price changes in non-subsidised types, the main focus of the state is to ensure price stability for subsidised BBM types.
“The government has prepared the regulations. And those regulations have been in place since 2022, before I became the Minister of ESDM. Previously, we conveyed that adjustments are needed so that the prices are not too far from what is ideal,” he continued.
According to him, the role of the state is to prioritise assistance to underprivileged groups of society through subsidy schemes. Meanwhile, for capable groups of society, price policies will continue to be adjusted to global market conditions to avoid excessive burden on state finances.
“The state is present to help all people, but the priority is for our brothers and sisters who are not able. For those who are able, they should contribute to mutual help, that’s all. The subsidised ones remain. I can only guarantee the subsidised prices because that is the President’s order and also the regulation,” he concluded.
