Bahlil Confirms BBM-LPG Stocks Safe Ahead of Eid al-Fitr Despite Middle East Tensions
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has assured that stocks of fuel (BBM) up to LPG are safe ahead of Eid al-Fitr, amid rising tensions in the Middle East following clashes between Israel and Iran. ‘Our stock of BBM ahead of Eid al-Fitr, Insya Allah, is all safe, including with elpiji. So there is no need for doubt, even though there are global dynamics in Iran and Israel,’ Bahlil told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (4 March 2026). He also confirmed that the price of subsidised BBM will not rise until the holiday arrives. For non-subsidised BBM, prices will follow market mechanisms. ‘For non-subsidised BBM prices, it is indeed the market mechanism, and that is in line with the 2022 ministerial regulation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM),’ he said. Earlier reports noted that the Middle East war escalated after Iran was targeted by Israeli and US strikes on Saturday (28 February 2026) local time. The strikes followed a deadlock in nuclear talks held in Geneva, Switzerland between the US and Iran. Israel was the first party to confirm it had launched strikes against Iran. The war between Israel and the United States against Iran was marked by missiles pummelling the sky over Tehran. Several rockets hit vital targets, including a residence in the Narmak neighbourhood of Tehran, where former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lives. Iran retaliated by firing missiles at locations linked to US military operations. Some US air bases attacked included Al Udeid in Qatar, Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al-Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, and the United States Fifth Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain.
