Bahar bin Smith Apologises and Proposes Restorative Justice after Visiting Beaten GP Ansor Member
Visiting a GP Ansor member who was assaulted, Bahar bin Smith has apologised and sought restorative justice. The meeting took place on the first Tarawih night, on Wednesday 18 February 2026, at the home of the victim, Rida, in Tangerang. The information was conveyed by the victim’s wife, Fitri Yulita (40), when she was interviewed at the Metro Tangerang City Police on Tuesday 3 March 2026. Although she forgives him personally, the victim’s family stressed that legal proceedings must continue.
Fitri said Bahar, together with several others, visited her husband soon after he arrived home at around 22:00 WIB. “Arrived on the first night of Tarawih. I got home around 22:00 WIB, and not long after he arrived,” Fitri said.
According to Fitri, upon arriving at the house, Bahar immediately saluted and hugged her husband. In the meeting, she said, it was conveyed an apology for the alleged assault incident experienced by Rida. “At that moment they shook hands and hugged my husband. Basically they conveyed an apology for the incident,” Fitri said.
Fitri admitted she asked the reason for the alleged beating of her husband. “I asked, how could this happen? Is my husband a thief or not? Why was he treated like that, beaten up?” she said.
According to Fitri, Bahar expressed regret and asked about the needs of the victim’s family, including medical costs. “So if medical costs or anything will be covered by him, there will be, but as of today there hasn’t been,” she said.
Fitri noted that to date the medical costs are still borne by the family. Rida is said to have been treated at two hospitals with total costs amounting to tens of millions of rupiahs and not covered by BPJS. Additionally, Rida’s motorcycle, which had previously been used as evidence, has not yet been returned. The motorcycle is normally used for daily work.
