Badung Transportation Agency to Implement Traffic Engineering at 6 Points to Uluwatu Starting June 2026
The Badung Regency Government will implement traffic engineering in the Ungasan and Pecatu villages, South Kuta subdistrict. This traffic engineering is intended to ease congestion on routes to the Uluwatu tourist destination. The engineering scheme will commence on 1 June 2026 and will focus on six vulnerable points, starting from the Nirmala Ungasan intersection heading south, Jalan Blimbing, Blimbing Sari to Jalan Toya Ning 1 and Toya Ning 2. “There are six points. In principle, we want to reduce vehicle flow cuts that cause traffic jams,” said the Head of the Transportation Agency (Kadishub) of Badung, Anak Agung Gede Rahmadi, on Wednesday (13/5/2026). This short-term policy, according to Agung Rahmat, is designed to minimise intersection or crossing points for vehicles that trigger long queues. Vehicle flow will be directed to follow a circular pattern so that mobility at intersections remains flowing without long delays. In addition to focusing on traffic engineering to Uluwatu, the Badung Transportation Agency is also following up on permits for temporary traffic diversions during the construction project of a four-lane road on the main road of Udayana University (Unud) campus. Some of these include the dismantling of public street lighting (PJU) as well as monitoring cameras or CCTV around the project site that has already commenced. Agung emphasised that Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa wants tourist accessibility and mobility to tourist sites not to be disrupted. If this scheme succeeds, a similar pattern is not ruled out to be applied in the Canggu village area, North Kuta subdistrict, which also experiences very high vehicle density. Previously, the Badung Transportation Agency planned to implement traffic engineering in the Berawa and Canggu tourism areas, North Kuta subdistrict. This step was taken following the high volume of vehicles and numerous public complaints regarding congestion at those points, following similar policies already implemented in Kerobokan Kelod. The traffic flow engineering study is planned to target crucial routes that have long been congestion knots, including access to beaches and shortcut roads. The Transportation Agency will soon invite the Road Traffic and Transportation Forum (LLAJ) to formulate the best scheme to be implemented. “We will discuss the Berawa and Canggu areas, including Pantai Berawa and its surroundings, as well as in Canggu, Jalan Kayu Tulang and so on. We will review those areas,” explained the Secretary of the Badung Transportation Agency, I Made Gede Wiryantara Adi Susandi.
