The Badung Police Department has deployed a total of 650 personnel to provide security during the Nyepi celebrations for the Cakan New Year 1948, which overlaps with the Eid-al-Fitr exodus for the Islamic year 1447. These preparations were refined through a multi-sectoral coordination meeting to address potential security risks at crowded locations and major routes.

“We are beginning our Nyepi and Eid-al-Fitr preparations with a multi-sectoral coordination meeting. The objective is to communicate security measures because we know this year’s Nyepi and Eid-al-Fitr schedules almost overlap,” said Head of Operations at Badung Police Kompol I Gusti Nyoman Sudarsana on Wednesday 11 March 2026.

Security operations begin during the Melasti phase, scheduled between 15 and 18 March 2026, with personnel stationed at seven ceremonial sites. Beyond beach area patrols, the police department has also deployed specialist traffic officers to manage traffic flow on routes used by worshippers.

“We will provide security at seven locations involving 73 personnel. For route security, we have prepared 130 officers to ensure that community processions flow without obstruction,” Sudarsana stated.

The largest deployment occurs on Pengerupukan night, when ogoh-ogoh (traditional ceremonial effigies) parades take place throughout the Badung Police jurisdiction. Kuta Utara, a major tourist congregation point, receives full police support with personnel on standby.

“We will launch large-scale security operations involving 650 personnel. For Kuta Utara, which sees heavy tourist traffic, we have made clear that during Melasti, Pengerupukan, and Ngembak Geni ceremonies, we will provide full police support,” he said.

On Ngembak Geni day, security focus shifts to tourist attractions to manage anticipated visitor surges. Sixty personnel will be distributed across eight tourist destinations predicted to become crowded gathering points in the day following Nyepi observance.

“We want to ensure that residents and visitors engaging in tourism activities remain safe and orderly at these locations,” he added.

Regarding the Eid-al-Fitr exodus, Badung Police has established a Service Post at Mengwi Terminal and a Security Post at Mangupura Junction as part of Operation Ketupat 2026. Personnel will be deployed in rotation from Langon Junction in Sempidi Village through Mengwitani at the border between Badung and Tabanan regencies.

“We have created one service post at Mengwi Terminal and one security post at Mangupura to ensure smooth traffic flow during both exodus and return journeys. Officers will be dispersed, with each junction staffed by two to three personnel according to the volume of traffic expected,” he explained.

Police have also designed a traffic management scheme on primary exodus routes to prevent major congestion. However, the implementation of this scheme will remain flexible and responsive to conditions in the field.
