Badung Deputy Regent Bagus Alit Sucipta conducted an on-site inspection of flood-affected areas along Jalan Dewi Sri, Legian, and Jalan Kunti, Seminyak, on Tuesday afternoon (24/2/2026). The flooding was triggered by the high water level in the Tukad Mati River due to extreme rainfall, combined with the low elevation of the area.

“One of the challenges is that this area is low-lying. When we try to pump the water into the Tukad Mati River, the river is already high. So, when the water is discharged, it flows back into the residential areas,” said Bagus Alit Sucipta at the inspection site.

The Badung Regency Government will continue to normalize the river to increase its water capacity. In addition, several drainage projects using box culverts up to 2 meters in size will soon be installed in critical locations such as Jalan Dewi Sri IV, Jalan Pandawa, and Campuhan.

“I believe that within the next few months, these can be installed, which will minimize the recurrence of such situations next year. The step we are taking is to accelerate the drainage system so that if there is a high water level, it will be quickly absorbed or discharged towards the Tukad Mati,” Bagus added.

The evacuation of residents and tourists in the surrounding villas is still ongoing and proceeding smoothly, thanks to the coordination of the joint team from the BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency), Tagana (Disaster Response Volunteers), and local authorities, according to the politician, who is affectionately known as Gus Bota.

Although the floodwater was initially high, officers ensured that the situation is now under control and the water is gradually receding.

“The evacuation was reported by the Village Head, and everything went quickly and smoothly. I also checked the villas or accommodations, and there is no more flooding,” explained the former member of the Bali DPRD (Regional People’s Representative Council).

Regarding the challenges on the ground, the Badung Regency Government will immediately provide outboard motors for the village’s rubber boats to facilitate mobilization against the current. The request for additional jet skis from the lifeguards will also be prioritized, given the emergency situation.

“The village plans to have boats, but they lack engines, because using oars now would mean going against the current. The lifeguards also requested additional jet skis, and I think this is an emergency situation, so we will provide as much as possible,” he emphasized.

Gus Bota acknowledged that the Legian and Seminyak areas are the worst affected in Badung, with the water level at one point cutting off road access since morning. He is committed to monitoring the points that obstruct the water flow so that long-term solutions can be implemented immediately.

“This is where the flooding is the worst, as the latest report stated that the water level reached chest height. I left this morning, but I was stuck and couldn’t get in, so I waited for the water to recede a bit before we started the inspection,” Bagus concluded.
