Badminton supremacy
Badminton supremacy
We have every reason to be satisfied with and proud of the
Indonesian badminton teams which succeeded in winning the
prestigious Thomas and Uber Cups, following nerve-wracking
matches at the Senayan sports center in Jakarta last weekend.
Yet, the event was marred by the overly enthusiastic and
uncontrollable home supporters who threw plastic bottles at the
Malaysian players and officials when the score was 3-0 in favor
of Indonesia, necessitating the cancellation of the remaining two
games.
-Kompas, Jakarta
The unruly behavior of our spectators during the match will
obviously leave a black mark in the eyes of international
viewers. If only Malaysia had fled the arena for fear of being
terrorized, the bad experience of 1967 would have repeated
itself.
But Malaysia showed great heart by hanging in there and
continuing to play until the decisive set. We should be
appreciative of such a noble attitude.
-Suara Karya, Jakarta
Fantastic! That is the word to illustrate the might of the
Indonesian badminton team which showed its supremacy last week by
grabbing both the Thomas and Uber Cups in the same year.
-Pikiran Rakyat, Bandung
With the great success of the Indonesian team, Indonesia is
now recognized as the holder of world badminton supremacy.
But after the players wind up their victory leave, they should
return to their training camps to prepare for future world
events.
-Media Indonesia, Jakarta
Our dream has come true! Thanks go to the training system
designed by the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) that
gives young players experience in both training and matches.
Surely a lesson for other local sports organizations.
