We have every reason to be satisfied with and proud of the
\nIndonesian badminton teams which succeeded in winning the
\nprestigious Thomas and Uber Cups, following nerve-wracking
\nmatches at the Senayan sports center in Jakarta last weekend.<\/p>\n
Yet, the event was marred by the overly enthusiastic and
\nuncontrollable home supporters who threw plastic bottles at the
\nMalaysian players and officials when the score was 3-0 in favor
\nof Indonesia, necessitating the cancellation of the remaining two
\ngames.<\/p>\n

The unruly behavior of our spectators during the match will
\nobviously leave a black mark in the eyes of international
\nviewers. If only Malaysia had fled the arena for fear of being
\nterrorized, the bad experience of 1967 would have repeated
\nitself.<\/p>\n
But Malaysia showed great heart by hanging in there and
\ncontinuing to play until the decisive set. We should be
\nappreciative of such a noble attitude.<\/p>\n
