Baby Wrapped in a Blanket Found in Front of South Jakarta School Abandoned by Man; Suspect Sought
A baby boy was found by a teacher and a security guard at the gate of a school in South Jakarta. Police said the baby had been dumped by a man. The Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Murodih, said the baby was dumped on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, at 03.05 WIB. This was determined after police checked CCTV. ‘From the CCTV footage there is a man placing the baby at around 03.05 WIB,’ Murodih told reporters on Thursday, 5 March. He explained that the case is still under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Kebayoran Baru Police Sector, and the identity of the man who dumped the baby is being traced. ‘This case is being handled by the Kebayoran Baru Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit to determine who dumped the baby,’ he added. The baby was first found by Maryono, a teacher who had just arrived at the school on Wednesday morning. Initially, Maryono suspected something wrapped at the school gate. Feeling suspicious, Maryono then called the school security guard, Suprapto (57), to check together. When checking, the pair found a baby boy alive, wrapped in a floral blanket. ‘The first and second witnesses immediately saw the item, and found a baby who was alive and wrapped in a floral blanket,’ Murodih explained. Suprapto immediately reported the discovery to the RW head. The RW head then contacted the local police liaison officer (Bhabinkamtibmas) of Kramat Pela. Officers who arrived evacuated the baby. The baby boy, innocent and helpless, is estimated to be about one week old. ‘(Estimated) about one week old. The umbilical stump has not yet fallen off,’ he added. The unfortunate baby is now under care at the Kebayoran Baru District Community Health Center. In the future, the baby will be cared for by the City Social Service of South Jakarta. (kuf/ygs)
