The Indonesian Quarantine Agency, through its Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Centre (Karantina) in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, has overseen the acceleration of fishery product exports worth Rp1.3 billion destined for Malaysia, to ensure the fish products are free from pests and diseases. “We are ensuring these fishery products are free from disease, meet quality standards and comply with the health requirements set by the destination country,” said Herwintarti, Head of the Quarantine Centre for the Bangka Belitung Islands. The supervisory process covered the export of 11 tonnes of fresh fish, comprising 420 kilogrammes of sea shrimp, 6,510 kilogrammes of squid, and 210 kilogrammes of swimming crab bound for Malaysia. This was to guarantee the smooth export of fishery commodities from Bangka Belitung to the neighbouring country. “The export of these fishery products valued at Rp1.3 billion was dispatched via Pangkalbalam Port in Pangkalpinang city and proceeded smoothly in accordance with applicable regulations,” he stated. He emphasised that the role of quarantine is not limited to issuing health certificates, but also serves as the front line in providing maximum protection and optimal service by guaranteeing the health, quality, and safety of commodities transported from upstream to downstream. “Through this rigorous supervision, we strive to provide assurance to the destination country that fishery products from Bangka Belitung are safe, healthy, and fit for consumption,” he said. He added that this successful export is evidence that Bangka Belitung’s fishery commodities have strong competitiveness in the global market due to their quality and superior taste compared to other regions. “We are committed to continuously supporting business actors through fast, professional, and accountable quarantine services to boost exports, strengthen the regional economy, and remain ready to support the integrated downstream processing and national fishery sector development programme,” he said.
