The Indonesian organisation Ahlulbait Indonesia (ABI) has declared that the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, represents a significant loss for the Islamic ummah and all forces consistently opposing global hegemony. Khamenei was killed following a combined United States and Israeli military strike on the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

General Chairman of ABI’s Central Leadership Council Zahir Yahya stated that Khamenei was far more than a political leader. “He was a symbol of principled steadfastness, ideological consistency, and courage in confronting the dominance of global powers, particularly the United States and Israel,” Zahir said in a written statement on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

According to ABI, Khamenei’s leadership represented a line of resistance affirming Iranian national independence and dignity. ABI views his death as a political crime violating principles of state sovereignty and fundamental norms of humanity and religion.

Zahir stated that an attack on the leader of a sovereign nation and a religious reference for tens of millions of believers constitutes a dangerous precedent undermining the foundations of international law, demonstrating modern imperialism in concrete form.

Israel launched an unprovoked strike against Iran on Saturday morning, 28 February 2026, in what was described as a joint military operation between the United States and Israel.

Iranian state media, Fars, confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed. According to Sky News, Iran announced a national period of mourning lasting forty days following his death in his office early Saturday morning. At least four buildings in the Supreme Leader’s residential complex in central Tehran were struck by bombs on 28 February 2026 as part of a massive US-Israeli assault on Iran.

Beyond Khamenei, several family members were reportedly killed in the strike. Al Arabiya reported, citing reliable sources within the Supreme Leader’s family, that a daughter, a son-in-law, a grandchild, and a daughter-in-law of Khamenei were among the fatalities.

In response to these developments, Ahlulbait Indonesia issued four position statements. First, ABI expressed the highest respect for Ali Khamenei. “The martyrdom of Imam Ali Khamenei represents glory in the path of struggle. The burden of leadership has been fulfilled with consistency, courage, and steadfastness until the end of life,” Zahir stated.

Second, ABI reaffirmed its anti-colonial stance. According to Zahir, ABI firmly rejects all forms of colonialism, domination, and foreign intervention against any nation. The resistance against oppression, he said, is a moral mandate independent of circumstances.

Third, ABI called for consolidation of religious solidarity. ABI urged the Islamic ummah, particularly followers of Ahlulbait in Indonesia, to strengthen unity, enhance political literacy, and fortify their ranks in facing increasingly complex global dynamics.

Fourth, ABI issued a call for spiritual reflection and steadfastness. ABI invited the organisation of prayer gatherings and Quranic recitation sessions over seven days as a form of respect and spiritual reinforcement.

“May Allah accept all his deeds and jihad, place him among the martyrs and the righteous, and strengthen the hearts of the ummah in continuing the struggle to uphold justice and human dignity,” Zahir said.
