Award for West Jakarta Mayor?

Award for West Jakarta Mayor?

From Kompas

In various places of the city, we have recently seen many
banners congratulating the West Jakarta Mayor on his
achievements.

We, as the residents of West Jakarta, are now perplexed by
what achievements the Mayor has made so far for the benefits of
the residents.

During the rainy seasons we still have floods and we often
have power outages and besides traffic jams/congestion which have
become a common sight getting even worse because no action has
been taken to improve public transportation or drivers who stop
anywhere they wish or roadside vendors who can do their business
freely along busy streets.

It seems that the title and authority vested in the Mayor are
not enough to make investors have respect. This can be seen from
the fact that the toll road in front of Puri Indah Mall has not
been put into operation for two years just because an agreement
on profit sharing has not been reached.

Our question is: Why can't the Mayor take an action to help
the residents create a conducive atmosphere to enable them to
carry out their business and work smoothly?. It seems that we
would not be caught in unnecessary traffic jams if the new toll
road is open. The people made a lot of sacrifices when they had
to "give away" part of their land for the construction of the
road.

We do hope that our complaints will be responded to by the
central government who has given the award to the Mayor and the
Mayor himself who has received the award. The award is the
reflection of the wish of the residents who want to make their
district a safe, convenient place to live in.

We would like to hear a prompt positive response from those in
charge in West Jakarta.

MEIJLIA, West Jakarta
