JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Pelita Air Service has revealed that the surge in aviation fuel (avtur) prices is having a major impact on the airline’s operational costs.

The rise in avtur prices has been driven by escalating geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, which are also pushing up global energy prices.

Pelita Air’s President Director, Dendy Kurniawan, stated that the avtur price surge since 1 April 2026 has been quite significant and directly affects the company’s cost structure.

“The price increase is very significant, which will naturally have a significant impact on our operating costs,” Dendy told Kompas.com on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

This situation requires the airline to adjust its strategies to maintain operational performance.

Despite facing cost pressures, Pelita Air assures that it remains committed to maintaining service quality for passengers.

“Nevertheless, Pelita remains committed to providing the best service to our customers at value-for-money prices,” he added.

On the other hand, the avtur price surge is also prompting airlines to propose adjustments to aircraft ticket fares.

The Indonesian National Airline Business Association (INACA) stated that the increase is inseparable from global trends due to the geopolitical crisis.

“As we predicted earlier, avtur prices will rise following global prices as a result of the geopolitical crisis in the Middle East,” said INACA Chairman Denon Prawiraatmadja.

Citing Pertamina’s official website, the avtur price at Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK) on 1 April 2026 is Rp 23,551 per litre, up 72.4% from last March’s price of Rp 13,656 per litre.

The international price has also risen by 80.3%, from 0.7 US dollars per litre to 1.338 US dollars per litre.

Compared to 2019, when the domestic avtur price was Rp 7,970 per litre, the increase has reached 295%.
