Avoid unnecessary foreign languages
Avoid unnecessary foreign languages
From Republika
The frequent use of foreign languages in books, radio and
television programs reflects the Indonesian nation's lack of
pride in its own language.
For example, there are Eiffel I'm in Love, On Positioning,
Breaking the Habit, Me Versus High Heels, Funky Hour, Funky
Morning, Extravaganza, Headline News, Hot Shot and
Game Zone. In fact, the books and programs are in Indonesian.
Isn't it strange and embarrassing?
Likewise, those who are not yet in good command of foreign
languages should not write foreign words on big posters for
public view. Even the slightest mistake will spoil the entire
meaning, which is far more embarrassing.
While public service advertisements often appeal for the
nation to embrace local products, why don't we start with the
love of the unifying language, Bahasa Indonesia? The national
language, declared in 1928, constitutes the identity and main
pillar of the nation.
