Avoid This Road! 2,000 Workers to Protest in Front of DPR Building
Thousands of workers will stage a demonstration in front of the DPR RI building today, Thursday (16/4/2026). This workers’ protest is being held to mark the upcoming International Labour Day (May Day) on 1 May. KSPI President and Labour Party President Said Iqbal stated that the demonstration will be attended by 1,500 to 2,000 workers from across Indonesia. “Yes, the pre-May Day action in front of the DPR RI and simultaneous actions across Indonesia,” Said Iqbal told CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (16/4/2026). “The pre-May Day action in front of the DPR RI building will be attended by 1,500-2,000 workers, consisting of FSPMI and KSPI members,” he added. The pre-May Day demonstration, starting at 10:00 WIB, will voice several demands including the ratification of the Employment Bill (RUU Ketenagakerjaan), the abolition of low wages and outsourcing (HOSTUM), and various Labour Day demands such as stopping layoff threats due to war and vehicle imports, tax reform, and others. “The issues to be raised include ratifying the Employment Bill and abolishing low wages and outsourcing. We also demand stopping layoff threats due to war and car imports, tax reform, abolishing THR tax, ratifying the PPRT Bill, ratifying the Asset Confiscation Bill, ratifying ILO Convention No. 190, and reducing ride-hailing cut rates to 10%,” he explained. Not only in front of the DPR RI, Said Iqbal also confirmed that this preliminary action ahead of Labour Day will take place in several regions across Indonesia. “The FSPMI-KSPI pre-May Day demonstration tomorrow will also be held simultaneously across Indonesia,” he said.
