JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Workers in the automotive and spare parts industry in West Java have rejected the purchase of 105,000 pick-up trucks from India.

The contract for the purchase of 105,000 pick-up trucks from India was signed by the state-owned company, PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, to support the commercial activities of the Desa and Kelurahan Merah Putih Cooperative (KDKMP), with a value of IDR 24.66 trillion.

The Chairman of the West Java branch of the Federation of Metal, Electronics and Machine Workers’ Unions (FSP LEM), Muhammad Sidarta, has called on the government to support domestic industry by cancelling the contract.

“We are not against international cooperation. However, in the current situation where the national industry is under pressure, government policy should favour domestic production,” said Sidarta, as quoted in an official statement on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

The sector is currently experiencing market pressure, with domestic sales declining and a wave of layoffs in a number of manufacturing industries.

As a result, a number of factories have reduced production hours, cut production costs and carried out layoffs in a number of companies and component industries.

In light of this situation, they believe that the move by PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara to import pick-up trucks from India is inappropriate.

He also reminded that the sustainability and stability of the automotive industry in West Java must be maintained for the sake of hundreds of thousands of workers.

“In the current situation, the government’s expenditure of IDR 24.66 trillion should be a safety net for the national industry, not a stimulus for foreign industries,” said Sidarta.
