Australian cattle exports up
SYDNEY (Reuter): The Australian Meat and Livestock Corp (AMLC)
said yesterday Australian live cattle exports are setting new
records and have already passed last year's record total of
304,650 head in the first 10 months of 1995.
AMLC divisional manager Lloyd Beeby said the initial forecast
was for exports of 390,000 head but this has been increased to
reach almost 500,000 head.
Beeby said Indonesia and the Philippines remain the two
largest markets and are increasingly buying more from Australia.
"Last year the Philippines took 127,000 head of cattle but so
far this year shipments have reached 168,000 head," Beeby said in
a statement.
"For Indonesia the figures are 128,000 head last year and
189,000 so far this year."
