Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) conducted searches of the office and residence of Yeka Hendra Fatika, a commissioner of the Indonesian Ombudsman (Ombudsman RI), on suspicion of corruption related to crude oil management.

The searches were confirmed by the Attorney General’s Head of Public Communications, Anang Supriatna, who stated they took place on Monday afternoon. Anang did not disclose specific details regarding Fatika’s alleged involvement in the matter under investigation.

According to Anang, the searches relate to a bribery case involving the acquittal of a cooking oil (migor) matter currently being processed by the Attorney General’s Office. He referenced an Ombudsman recommendation concerning cooking oil shortages from several years prior.

The Background

The case originated from acquittals handed down on 19 March 2025 against three corporations charged by the Attorney General’s Office: Wilmar Group, Musim Mas Group, and Permata Hijau Group. Upon investigation, prosecutors allege the acquittals were predetermined, with suspects including judges and lawyers implicated in the arrangement.

According to prosecutors, the acquittals were supported in part by a State Administrative Court (PTUN) decision favouring the corporations. One key factor in that decision was a recommendation from the Indonesian Ombudsman that concluded there was “maladministration” in the policy governing crude palm oil (CPO) exports.

Prosecutors suspect foul play behind the Ombudsman’s recommendation. This suspicion prompted the searches of the Ombudsman commissioner’s office and residence, as he is allegedly involved in the manipulation scheme.

When asked whether the background to the searches related to the Ombudsman’s recommendation when the corporations filed their case at the PTUN, Anang confirmed this was a factor.

According to Anang, the Ombudsman commissioner’s actions are suspected of obstructing the prosecution investigation. The consequence of these alleged actions enabled the corporations to temporarily escape legal consequences.
